With Memorial Day around the corner, it’s an ideal time to deck your home out in red, white, and blue. Three of our most precious patriotic holidays fall over the “summer months”, so you can leave that décor up all summer long and not have it be out of place. Here are some of our favorite Patriotic framed décor ideas.

1. Button flag art- This craft DIY from Things to Share and Remember uses buttons and burlap to create a jewel-toned, rustic masterpiece. It doesn’t even require sewing, which is great for those who either lack that particular skill or would be loath to waste their incredible talents with a hot glue gun.

2. Patriotic printables- You know how much we love printables here at the Frame Warehouse. These babies are instant classy new home décor when combined with one of our frames. Fine some of our favorite flag-waving printables here, here, and here.

3. Framed bunting- Classic patriotic bunting is perfect for decorating for the season, and you can put it in a frame to make it look more finished for interior décor.

4. Patriotic quilt- Quilts are commonly sewn in red, white, and blue to reflect the seamstress’s patriotic leanings, and you can put a beautiful patriotic quilt top into a frame to create timeless artwork for your home. Note that a quilt top will work best for this; a whole quilt is pretty thick to try to stick in a frame unless you’re aiming for a heavy shadowbox design.

5. A display to honor a military member you love- Create a scrapbook-like page design to honor the men and women in your life who have served in the armed forces so that you may remember the service members who never made it home every day.

However you choose to celebrate Memorial Day, we hope that you make a little time to reflect on the sacrifices made for you by the men and women of our armed forces, and know that we’d be glad to have a place in your patriotic display. Creating a Vintage Effect Framed Mirror

Framed mirrors can add a bit of light and beauty to almost any space, but sometimes a shiny new mirror doesn’t really mesh with the décor. That doesn’t mean that you must forego a mirror in these areas. Instead, you can hang a distressed mirror. Here’s how you can make one yourself from any mirror.

You’ll need:

  • A mirror, free from any backing
  • Protective gear (safety glasses, gloves, apron, mask)
  • Paint brush
  • Paint stripper
  • Mauriatic acid
  • Rags and paper towels
  • Spray bottle and eye dropper
  • Black acrylic paint

Step 1: Put on your protective gear and, in a well ventilated area, brush paint stripper on to the back of the mirror, let it sit for a few minutes, and then wipe it off with a rag. If the silver backing isn’t uncovered, do it again, then be sure the mirror is clear of the stripper.

Step 2: Put the muriatic acid in a spray bottle and mist the back of the mirror with it. Use the dropper to create larger distressed spots. Let the acid sit for about a minute or until the reflective coating is dissolved. Clear the acid off the mirror with paper towels.

Step 3: Wipe the mirror clean with a damp rag.

Step 4: Paint over the entire back of the mirror with the black paint and allow it to dry. Voila! You’ve made a distressed mirror!

There are several ways you can distress a frame to match a distressed mirror. Try this effect out in a beautiful barn wood frame, and check out our Facebook page for additional inspiration for your farmhouse or primitive décor.

This Year’s Hottest Framed Mother’s Day Gifts

It can be a struggle to come up with the perfect gift for Mom every May for Mother’s Day. After all, she gave us the gift of life, and that makes most things we could gift her pale in comparison (despite that Mom almost never thinks so). Here are some of our favorite framed Mother’s Day gift ideas so you can give your mom a gift that is personal, will last, and can be proudly displayed in her home or office all year long.

1. Quote printables- There are a ton of incredible, inspiring Mother’s Day quote printables out there that will suit any mom’s style. Check out a couple great free ones here and here.

2. A framed photo of you (or grandkids)- You can’t go wrong with a great framed portrait of yourself or your kiddos to grace your mom’s shelves. With advances in camera technology and easier to use photo editing software, you don’t even necessarily need to hire a photographer.

3. Frame her favorite flower- Frames aren’t just for paper items! Press several of your mom’s favorite flowers in the pages of a heavy book, be sure they’re completely dry, and place them in a frame over a piece of neutral colored paper as backing. It’s like buying her flowers but they last all year long and then some.

4. Frame a meaningful page from your favorite book to read together- Do you remember a book your mom would read to you as a child that just embodied her motherly love for you, like I’ll Love You Forever by Robert Munsch or Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak? Maybe you and mom like to read the same things now, even. Put those precious pages in a frame.

Even if you’re not looking to get real personal with your gift this year, frames, framed art, and framed mirrors are a great gift for almost any occasion. For more ideas and custom framing advice, check out our Frame Warehouse Facebook page.

Unique Frame Hanging Solutions

Framed décor is a great way to add pizazz to your home and you can change it in and out as you please easily so that your home’s look can flex with the season and your mood.

While it’s obvious that framed items cover a wide range of styles, there are almost as many unique ways to hang frames as there are unique framed items. Here are just a few ideas for how to hang frames that in your home to turn your boring framed pieces into whole new works of art.

1. Hang several frames from a curtain rod- Hang a sturdy, stylish curtain rod on your wall, then hang framed pieces from it by stapling ribbons to the top and back of the frame on either side and tying a bow around the curtain rod.

2. Hang with unique materials- Screw simple eyelet screws into the top corners of a nice, heavy wood frame and you can use almost any string-like material you like to hang your frame. Get creative. You can use jute, ribbon, strips of fabric, beaded strands of wire, or anything else you can come up with that can hold the weight of your item.

3. Hang photos from knobs- Using the above eyelets or by simply attaching strings to the back of a frame using a heavy duty adhesive or staples, you can hang photos from knobs or drawer pulls. They don’t necessarily need to be knobs on cabinets, either. You can hang a classy knob anywhere on your wall to add a unique touch to your framed item.

4. Add trim slightly above eye level and hang frames from hooks- This is a great way to create a unique gallery wall that you can design to suit your space and your style.

Your only limits for how you hang your frames are your imagination and the strength of materials you choose. For more unique framing and frame décor ideas, check out the Frame Warehouse Facebook page.

Reasons Why You Should Frame Your Wedding Dress

Did you wear a traditional wedding dress on your wedding day, or did you take the road less traveled and opt for something a little different than the average white gown? Either way, I’m here to tell you why framing your wedding dress is a great idea. Here are several reasons why you might want to consider it, and some tips for executing the perfect framed wedding dress.
Reasons You Should Frame Your Wedding Dress

  1. It probably cost you a fortune, so repurposing it as décor is financially savvy.
  2. It’ll remind you every day of how beautiful your wedding day was.
  3. It’s a great way to preserve your dress. Posterity, folks!
  4. It’s a great conversation piece.
  5. You spent a lot of time stressing about this dress to not be able to look at it every day.

Tips for Framing Your Wedding Dress
Here are a couple pointers if you’re thinking of framing your dress.

  • Be sure you have your dress dry cleaned first. Even if it looks clean, invisible trace particulates like food, pollen, or saliva could cause mold if you’re not careful.
  • Hang your framed dress in a place that is well climate controlled to help preserve it.
Be sure to use acid-free materials in framing.
  • If you have it professionally framed, you won’t have to worry about this part.
  • One of the best parts about using a custom framing outfit like Frame Warehouse to frame your wedding dress is that you can get the perfect sized frame to fit your gown. You’ll want the dress carefully pressed so that it’s arranged appropriately in the frame.

Using Frames in Your Nursery Design

Almost nothing makes us want to improve our homes more than a new baby coming along. It’s in our biology to want to create a nice, safe, comfy space for our new little bundles of joy, and it’s a literal compulsion for many women later on in their pregnancies. From the crib to the bedding to the wall décor, there are plenty of nursery components to think about. Here are some of our best framed décor tips for adding that extra-special touch to your new little sprite’s nursery.

  1. Don’t be afraid to frame unconventional objects. Teddy bears and other toys, dried (or silk) plants you received as a pregnant mum, and heirloom baby clothing make fantastic wall décor with a little added dimension, not to mention sentimental.
  2. Nursery colors aren’t limited to “baby colors”. You may be thinking a dark or barn wood frame just won’t do for a nursery, but there’s no need to limit yourself to traditional baby colors. Modern nurseries are often done in far more neutral and adult color schemes, and those neutral frames will carry over as you update the room as your child grows.
  3. Add a photo of Mom and Dad. Keeping a photo of baby’s caregivers close at hand where they can see it from their crib is a wonderful idea. It can be comforting to both parents and baby.

Whatever your nursery theme, there’s a brilliant piece of décor to frame that will complete your
little one’s new nest. For more custom framing advice, check in at our Facebook page, and follow along so you don’t miss a thing.

A DIY Approach to Tax Organization

Nobody likes filing taxes (well, maybe a select few people who get plenty of money back). It’s tedious, there’s a ton of paperwork to keep track of, and the horrifying prospect that if you or your tax professional somehow overlook something it could be a federal crime makes it a generally unpleasant task. Organization is the key to keeping your taxes straight, though. There’s no better time to start planning how to better organize your tax paperwork than when the IRS’s April 17th deadline is breathing down your neck. At least you can make sure you’re prepared next year!!

Here’s how you can make a hanging framed tax organizer to give you the perfect place to offload all your tax paperwork throughout the year and keep it handy for filing in 2019.

1. Get a large frame. Personally, I love Frame Warehouse’s

Customize your tax organizer however you need to so that your paperwork is all in one place for next year, but easy to access in the meantime. For additional frame ideas to help keep your home organized, check out Frame Warehouse’s Facebook page.

Our Favorite Spring Frames

After the long dreary winter, there’s little in this world more refreshing than the bright pops of color and light that spring brings. The vernal equinox has come and gone, and if you aren’t already turned towards spring cleaning and freshening up your house, you’ll likely get there soon.
If you’re looking for ways to change up your décor to reflect the weather outside, you may be thinking of painting or new furniture, but you don’t have to take it that far. You don’t even really need to change out the artwork in your home. You can add a lot of lightness and airiness to your home by simply changing out dark, rich frames for lighter, springier versions. Here are our favorite frames for spring:

  1. 2” White- The thickness of this bold white frame can completely flip the look of your artwork or family photos. Exchanging a black or brown frame for this one can bring a hefty dose of brightness to any room.
  2. 1 ¼” Yellow- There is little that says spring more than a bright, dandelion yellow, and this frame has a whole lot of yellow to offer. Pair it with an existing black and white photo in your home if you’re worried about color clashes.
  3. 2.125” Silver- While metallic can sometimes seem a little stuffy, the bright reflective nature of this frame can bring light into your home. Pastels in shades of green and purple look fantastic with silver!
  4. 1 ¼” Blonde Maple- This light wood frame is sleek and modern, yet still earthy in its tone. Replace any dark wood or black frame with it for an airier feel.

Whichever of these frames you choose, you’re sure to add the peaceful light of spring to your home. If you need more frame ideas to spruce up your spring décor, check out our Facebook page.

How to Use Frames in a Memorial Service

Planning a funeral for a loved one is likely one of the most stressful and trying times in your life. Even if your loved one has given good directions on how they wish you to memorialize them, there’s a lot of pressure to plan a service that honors their memory.

We all know that a great frame can make all the difference in whether the décor for any event looks classy and well-constructed or whether it looks sloppy. Sloppy isn’t an adjective that anyone wants applied to something as important as a memorial service.

Whether you’re putting together a visitation, a traditional funeral service, or a celebration of life, here are some ways you can use frames to make putting together a service suitable to your loved one.

Photo Collage

You can help attendees fondly remember your loved one by putting together a photo collage, or several of them, even. Use photos from their whole life through to help people remember them fondly.

Memorial Photo

Especially for services where people are unable to see the deceased, a memorial photo is crucial. It helps people remember your loved one at their best, and framing it lovingly helps to showcase that memorial photo.

Memory Table

Many people put together a memory table that allows attendees to look back on your loved one’s life story. You could include photos, important documents, or even just written accounts of your favorite memories of them. Placing these all in coordinating frames will help to provide a cohesive look.

Final Word on Frames for Memorial Services

Regardless of venue or the type of service, there’s always a place for fabulous framed photos of your loved one at a memorial service. For more ideas or info on custom framing info, check out the Frame Warehouse Facebook page.

Display Your Good Press

Say there’s a press release published about an event your business has put on, or maybe your business is being recognized by the Chamber of Commerce as an innovative or philanthropic business. Maybe you’ve even made the front page of the local paper!

What now? While the honor is wonderful and may provide a business boost for a short time simply because your name is getting out there a bit more, the benefit of that free press will fade soon.

But it doesn’t have to. That good press could live on forever as a piece of your business, but you’ll need to display it where people will see it in order for that to be the case. Cut out the clip carefully from an unscathed copy of a print publication or have an online clip printed on high quality photo paper. This will ensure that the press clipping looks as professional as possible. Now it’s time to hang it up!

Grab a thumbtack, right? Just stick that press clipping up on the wall and voila!

Maybe not. Newspapers are pretty biodegradable, which means just exposure to the elements inside your place of business could do a number on an exposed press clipping. Within a few months, it will start to curl, discolor, and the paper will become fragile.
Instead, put that article in a frame! Better yet, have it professionally framed with Frame Warehouse to ensure that the proper materials are used so that your good press can last for years to come!
