Cleaning the glass in your frames is one of those things that you probably don’t think about until the glass is quite dusty or smudged—and once it gets to that point, it can be daunting to know where to start. Next time you’re ready to clean your frames, follow this step-by-step process for shining, gleaming glass that shows off your photos and artwork.
- Remove the glass from the frame. This step is important for two reasons. First, you’ll be able to clean the entire glass and avoid pushing dust and grime up against the edge of the frame. Second, you’ll be able to protect the frame from discoloration, warping, and other damage that the cleaner may cause.
- Mix your own cleaner. While store-bought glass cleaners work well, you can get a much clearer shine to your glass by creating your own cleaning solution. Mix equal parts distilled water (distilled to reduce the residue left behind) and white vinegar. If the smell is unpleasant, you can also add a few drops of your favorite essential oil.
- Spray the cleaner evenly and dry with a piece of newspaper. You read that right! A piece of newspaper is the best way to get a streak-free shine on your frame’s glass.
- Let the glass dry before putting it back in the frame. A small film of moisture will be left on the glass after you dry it. Let it sit for a few minutes to dry completely before you put it back in the frame.
