When a loved one who was a member of the armed forces passes on and receives a funeral with military honors, their next of kin generally receives a carefully folded flag from a soldier with their condolences and thanks for their loved one’s service to or sacrifice for their country.
That flag is a meaningful memento to most military families. It acts as a testament to the outstanding character of their loved one, and it symbolizes their unselfish service to their country.
What should you do with that flag after you receive it? There are a lot of options, like storing it carefully away or flying it from your flag pole at home. One of the most popular options, though, is to place the flag in a case and display it in your home.
You could simply frame the flag, or you could create a display to showcase the flag. A display may include your loved one’s other military honors, maybe a uniform or part of it, and perhaps a photograph during their time in the service. You may want to start designing your display by choosing a place for it so that you know how much space you have to work with. From there, choose items to place in the display that are meaningful to you or to your loved one.
