Our Favorite Spring Frames

After the long dreary winter, there’s little in this world more refreshing than the bright pops of color and light that spring brings. The vernal equinox has come and gone, and if you aren’t already turned towards spring cleaning and freshening up your house, you’ll likely get there soon.
If you’re looking for ways to change up your décor to reflect the weather outside, you may be thinking of painting or new furniture, but you don’t have to take it that far. You don’t even really need to change out the artwork in your home. You can add a lot of lightness and airiness to your home by simply changing out dark, rich frames for lighter, springier versions. Here are our favorite frames for spring:

  1. 2” White- The thickness of this bold white frame can completely flip the look of your artwork or family photos. Exchanging a black or brown frame for this one can bring a hefty dose of brightness to any room.
  2. 1 ¼” Yellow- There is little that says spring more than a bright, dandelion yellow, and this frame has a whole lot of yellow to offer. Pair it with an existing black and white photo in your home if you’re worried about color clashes.
  3. 2.125” Silver- While metallic can sometimes seem a little stuffy, the bright reflective nature of this frame can bring light into your home. Pastels in shades of green and purple look fantastic with silver!
  4. 1 ¼” Blonde Maple- This light wood frame is sleek and modern, yet still earthy in its tone. Replace any dark wood or black frame with it for an airier feel.

Whichever of these frames you choose, you’re sure to add the peaceful light of spring to your home. If you need more frame ideas to spruce up your spring décor, check out our Facebook page.

Display Your Good Press

Say there’s a press release published about an event your business has put on, or maybe your business is being recognized by the Chamber of Commerce as an innovative or philanthropic business. Maybe you’ve even made the front page of the local paper!

What now? While the honor is wonderful and may provide a business boost for a short time simply because your name is getting out there a bit more, the benefit of that free press will fade soon.

But it doesn’t have to. That good press could live on forever as a piece of your business, but you’ll need to display it where people will see it in order for that to be the case. Cut out the clip carefully from an unscathed copy of a print publication or have an online clip printed on high quality photo paper. This will ensure that the press clipping looks as professional as possible. Now it’s time to hang it up!

Grab a thumbtack, right? Just stick that press clipping up on the wall and voila!

Maybe not. Newspapers are pretty biodegradable, which means just exposure to the elements inside your place of business could do a number on an exposed press clipping. Within a few months, it will start to curl, discolor, and the paper will become fragile.
Instead, put that article in a frame! Better yet, have it professionally framed with Frame Warehouse to ensure that the proper materials are used so that your good press can last for years to come! Frame a Little Motivation in Your Place of Business

January is a hopeful time of year. Everyone is generally pretty dedicated to their New Year’s resolutions still and it makes for a more positive atmosphere in many places, including at work.

But what about when that extra umph begins to wear off? The dreary nature of February and so many months with limited sunlight can really start to wear on people. If you need an office-wide pick-me-up or if your place of business could use an attitude boost, you might consider adding a little visual motivation.

You can do this by either framing pre-made motivational posters or by creating your own. There are also tons of great motivational printables available on the internet that might introduce a more positive vibe to your workplace.

Here are some great motivational quotes and phrases that will help keep you and your work mates focused on your goals.

  • “The secret to change is to focus all of your energy not on fighting the old, but on building the new.” – Socrates
  • “You are never too old to set another goal or to dream a new dream.” – C.S. Lewis
  • “Continuous improvement is better than delayed perfection.” – Mark Twain
  • “Keep your eyes on the stars and your feet on the ground.” – Teddy Roosevelt
  • “A person who never made a mistake never tried anything new.” – Albert Einstein
  • “Success is liking yourself, liking what you do, and liking how you do it.” – Maya Angelou

By framing these high ideals and placing them in high-traffic areas, you can spread motivation all around. Check out more great framing ideas on the Frame Warehouse Facebook page.

It’s that time of year again! New Year’s resolutions will be planned out over this month, but did you know that only 8% of people actually achieve their New Year’s resolution?

If you think you might need a little extra help keeping your New Year’s resolution this year, you can use some of the ideas below to help keep you accountable and organized this January.

Put a Printable Organizer in a Frame to Hang on Your Wall

Here are some different types of printable organizers that might help you track and stick to your goal:

  • Food tracker
  • Meal planner
  • To-Do list
  • Fitness goal tracker
  • Calendar
  • Planner

The best part about putting these printables behind glass is that you can write on the glass with a dry erase marker, allowing for easy erasure without taking apart the frame. You can reuse them over and over again.

Control the Paper Mess

You can create a mail organizer from a frame, some fabric, and a couple other simple supplies. Check out this blog post to see how you can make the perfect mail organizer for your home. This is perfect if your New Year’s resolution is to keep the house tidier.

Put Your Goals on Paper Out in the Open

When your goals are frequently visible, you’re more likely to stick to them. Turn your resolution into a beautiful work of art that can be displayed in your home or office so that you can keep your eye on the prize.

Fall Framing Ideas

It’s nearly that time of year. In many places, the leaves are beginning to turn and the air is growing crisp. Football, apple cider, and pumpkin everything is on the way. There’s something about fall that makes me want to decorate! Maybe it’s because the chilly air forces us into our homes where the same four walls become stale rather quickly, or maybe it’s simply the color and singular beauty of the accoutrements of the season.

This fall, you can use frames to spice up your décor. Here are some autumn trends worth following this year!

  • Frame wreaths- Nothing says fall like a wreath, and frame wreaths are still all the rage this fall. You can use a simple frame with an initial in it, or hang an empty, ornate frame with a sprig of fall greenery (or maybe a few gourds) placed artfully in one corner. To hang these, simply glue on a ribbon or jute tie.
  • Natural elements- Use frames to highlight the natural elements of the season. Dip fall leaves in bright reds, yellows, and purples in paraffin wax to preserve their color and place your collection in a frame to showcase it. You can do the same with acorns. Glue them to a foam board and surround with a frame that is heavy enough not to be overshadowed by the 3-D nuts. You can frame vases or jars full of beautiful fall blooms, too, like sunflowers or mums.
  • Seasonal printables- Check out Pinterest for trendy, adorable, and relevant fall printables. Place them in frames in bold fall colors, like a deep red.

Create a DIY Frame Mail Organizer

Mail! Despite our best efforts to curb the number of trees that are slain fated to be delivered to our mailboxes, it seems like an excruciating amount of mail makes its way into our homes every week. Because it just keeps on coming, it’s one of the toughest clutter issues most people tackle in their homes.

So, what do we do with it all? First off, shred unneeded mail with personal information on it, or just toss “Current Resident” mail directly into the recycling bin. Once you’re down to mailers you actually need, it’s time to organize it!

Here’s how you can create a custom mail organizer to hang over your mail drop zone so that it’s easy to keep mail up until you toss it or file it away.

  1. Pick out a frame that suits your décor. You’ll need one that’s fairly large for this project, say 18×24 or larger. I’ll be basing measurements upon standard-sized 18×24 Frame Warehouse frames, but you can absolutely adjust this to suit your space!
  2. Next, you’ll need to prepare your fabric pockets. A heavier fabric is ideal; nothing sheer or too gauzy. Burlap or canvas, both of which are available in many colors and prints, are inexpensive and popular choices. You’ll need six pieces of fabric, each piece 13 inches long by about 22 inches across (half the width of a normal roll of fabric). Use 3/8 in. iron on hem tape to create neat edges at either end of each piece. To do this, simply fold over ½ inch of the fabric with the wrong sides together, right sides out, iron to create a neat fold, and then follow the directions on the hem tape to stick down the folds. Fold each hemmed piece in half, right sides out, and iron for a neat pocket bottom. Repeat with each of the six pieces of fabric.
  3. Now you’ll need to attach the pockets to a board. You can use sturdy foam board, scrap paneling, or tough cardboard cut to the size of the frame. Glue down your first pocket with the open end at the top of the board, centered, using a hot glue gun or other craft adhesive. Wrap the extra length around the back of the board and glue it down as well. Be careful that it’s not too tight! Measure three inches down from the top and set up the next pocket, taking care to make sure it’s level all the way across. Repeat with the next four pockets, making sure the bottom pocket fold sits right along the bottom of the board.
  4. Place the board in the frame and hang however you choose. A wire hanging kit will help ensure that your frame mail organizer stays straight.

Label each pocket with a family member’s name, the day of the week, or based on the type of mail you would like the pocket to hold. This organizer keeps mail off surfaces to reduce clutter. For more frame projects, watch Frame Warehouse’s Facebook page!

Dress Up the Ugly Necessities in Your Home with Frames

For whatever reason, many of the items that the modern home requires, like thermostats and light switches, are sorely lacking in pleasing aesthetics. To put it plainly, they’re oftentimes ugly, and they can really kill the vibe you’ve worked so hard to achieve. Your sophisticated, sleek entryway is seriously marred by the gigantic security system console that, out of necessity, is right there in the open.

There are absolutely fancier, better designed units out there. However, if even the tiniest hint of design was considered in the creation of an electronic product like that, they tend to cost an arm and a leg. The proposed solution to this ugly problem? Frame them!

With custom frames, you can simply frame these eye sores. Choose frames that are wider and therefore serve as the focal point rather than the offending item. Thermostats, security systems, and light switches could all benefit from this treatment. Word to the wise: be careful of wires in the wall when you hang frames around these implements. A stud finder that can show you the location of wiring in the wall would come in handy for this.

If you have a monstrosity so ugly that a simple frame job won’t help, consider creating a complete cover from a framed picture. Create a box around the hideous element from wood, and then attach the framed picture with hinges on one side so you can still get inside when you need to use it.

How to Create the Perfect Gallery Wall

If you’ve scoped out the internet for the latest in home décor, you’ve likely come across some amazing images of gallery walls. These beautiful displays include nearly anything you could possibly hang on a wall in unique formations that incorporate flawlessly into the décor. You’ll find everything from neat and tidy sparse displays like above to the eclectic, junk shop look that’s become very popular in farmhouse and Bohemian design trends.

Here are some aspects of gallery wall design that you can use to customize this look for any style, along with tips to do just that:

  • Frames– For a sleek modern look, or a mid-century mod feel, aim for matching frames in similar sizes so that you can easily create a tidy, geometric design. Use even numbers of same size/shape frames to fill the available space. Smooth, sparse designs in neutral colors that contrast well with the wall color work best here. For a more eclectic feel, use frames of varied sizes, shapes, and textures. An intricately designed or brightly colored frame can even be hung with no picture to add a flair without making the space feel cluttered.
  • Mats– Use wide, neutral mats around images that are small but impactful for a modern look, and try to keep a sense of sameness throughout. Use narrow or colorful mats with large, bright images for a livelier look. Change up the mat styling per the image.
  • Non-Frame Elements– If you desire a clean feel, you probably want to avoid non-framed pieces. Frames give the wall a sense of conformity and sameness, and they can turn a group of unrelated images into a cohesive, symmetrical gallery. Use anything that strikes your fancy for a less structured gallery. Items like small shelves with knick-knacks, hanging votives, and painted wood initials are popular choices.

Essentially, designing a gallery wall is all about choosing what moves you. Check out the Frame Warehouse Facebook page for more gallery wall ideas!

Use Frames to Make Your Restaurant’s Specials Eye-Catching

Specials have the power to make or break a restaurant’s bottom line. They allow for careful ordering and give you the opportunity to make the most of what you’ve already got on hand. They’re frequently overlooked by clientele, though.

This could happen because the server skims over them, or the guest is hard of hearing, or they’re trying to reign in an unruly child and paying little attention. You can eliminate those barriers to customer’s ordering of specials by placing them directly on each table.

You can do just that by using frames. Here are two ways you can create a special board on each individual table so that guests have easy access to the specials in writing.

First, create a printable template that matches your restaurant’s theme seamlessly. You’ll input the daily specials and print them off. Use a heavier cardstock or linen paper to create a classier feel. Place them in stand-up frames on each table. You don’t even need to glass over the paper in this method, the frame and heavier paper will keep the print-outs in place.

The second option is place a background paper in a frame with glass. Hang the frame on the wall above each table to prevent guests from touching and smearing the writing. Write the specials neatly with a dry erase marker each day. The looks you could create with this method are limited only by your imagination. Use black paper and neon or white dry-erase markers to create a put-together style, or use a lightly patterned paper and a complementary shade of marker.

Using Frames in the Garden

jun_garden

jun_garden

You’ve seen plenty of clever uses of frames on the blog here at Frame Warehouse, but there’s not much on using frames outside. When you think of frames, you probably think of pictures, which are not a very weather-proof décor item, but there are plenty of non-photo ways to use frames. They can even create the same classy, well-rounded effect they have inside the home outside. Use frames to jazz up your garden with these ideas:

  • Garden table: Create a simple but beautiful table or plant stand in your garden with a frame. Simply follow the directions in this custom frame serving tray blog, then screw on four prefabricated legs from a hardware store following the instructions provided. If you use a large frame, you can even create a little potting bench.
  • Framed wall pots: Hang pots on a fence, trellis, or the side of the garden shed and then add frames around them as a finishing touch. Be sure to purchase frames that are larger than the pots you’re using by a couple inches on each side to leave room for the plant to grow.
  • Outdoor Chalkboards: Add pizzazz to an outdoor chalkboard so your littles can get creative outside. Hang a chalkboard that’s ready to be used in the elements or add chalkboard paint to an existing smooth surface and frame it to create a beautiful chalk art display or custom chalk sign.

Weatherproofing

Frames, generally speaking, aren’t up to surviving intact in the elements. If you plan on doing one of these projects in an area that’s exposed, you’ll want to weatherproof your frame (and other materials) first. You can do this by spray painting the items with an outdoor-worthy clear coat.
