Serving trays are the perfect accessories for decluttering your living room, kitchen, bathroom, or bedroom, but finding the perfect tray for your space may be a challenge. Instead of combing the shelves of store after store, why not make a tray that brings the exact character and personality you’re looking for to your space? All you need is a frame, some fabric, and a few beads.

Choose your frame

Before you go shopping, you’ll want to have a certain size tray in mind. If you’re making your tray for your living room, a larger size frame that matches the scale of the space will work best. For your bedroom or bathroom, try a smaller frame that will fit better on a nightstand or countertop. The team at Frame Warehouse can help you find the perfect one.

Choose your fabric

The fabric will go under the glass of the frame, so it will sit along the bottom of the tray. You’ll want your fabric to complement the frame you’ve chosen, and this is a great time to get creative! From textured solids to colorful patterns, pick a fabric that will bring warmth and personality into your living space.

Choose your beads

The beads will go along the bottom of the tray to provide it with a little height. You can choose a lower profile look with smaller beads the same color as your frame, or you can opt for a bolder look with brightly colored or patterned beads.

Assemble your tray

First, lay the frame face down and remove the back. Wrap the fabric around the inside of the frame’s back, making sure that the edges spill over so that the fabric wraps around. Reassemble the frame and trim away any excess fabric, leaving about a quarter inch around the sides so that it doesn’t slip out. As a last step, glue the beads to the back of the frame (which should still be lying face down). Let the glue dry for about 30 minutes and voilà, your tray is complete!

If you’re a fan of seasonal home décor, summer is most likely the brightest and boldest season in your house. Pops of orange, yellow, and blue call to mind sunny days and clear skies—and are perfect accent colors for a wide range of décor palettes. If you don’t want these brighter colors to overpower your home’s décor but do want to bring a bit of bright, summery style to your living space, try swapping out your neutral frames for frames in the following bright hues.

  • Orange: Orange has so many wonderful connotations—sunsets, carrots, orange juice. A bright pop of orange can bring energy and positivity into your home.
  • Yellow: Yellow brings to mind flowers, lemons, and sunshine. Pops of yellow are the perfect way to create a crisp, light, yet bold living space.
  • Blue: Blue is one of those colors that works well for any season, but a bright, clear blue is particularly well-suited for summer décor. If you’re looking for a somewhat softer hue that is bright but not overpowering, certain shades of blue may be the perfect choice.
  • Green: Green is typically associated with spring, but darker, brighter hues of green are perfect for summer (think lush, jungle greens).
  • Purple: Purple is one of the most beautiful colors in summer sunsets, and can bring a calm and soothing feel to your living space while providing that pop of color that you’re looking for.

3 Ways to Care for Your Frames While Spring Cleaning

Spring is an energizing season, and a lot of people use this energy to throw open the windows, welcome the warmer temperatures, and do a deep clean of their house. In fact, after being closed up all winter long, this is the perfect time to air out your home and make sure everything is clean and in order as you greet the new season. Despite the best of intentions, though, some items are commonly overlooked during spring cleaning—including frames. Cleaning your frames is imperative to keeping them in good condition, so gather your cleaning tools and keep these tips in mind as you start your spring cleaning.

Dust your frames before you use any cleaning agents.
It can be tempting to go straight to the heavy-duty cleansers, especially when you’re deep cleaning, but always start with a dry dust when tidying your frames. This is particularly important if your frames have wood grain or other texture that traps dust particles. To most effectively clear away any dust, use a dry, soft toothbrush. Make sure you get in all of the corners!

Take the glass out of your frames before cleaning it.
It can be tempting to clean the glass while it’s still in the frame, especially when you’re in a hurry, but taking time for the extra step of removing the glass is the best way to care for your frames. This is particularly true if your frames are made of wood, as too much moisture around the edges of the glass can cause the frames to warp or become discolored.

Use vinegar to clean your frames.
White vinegar is the key to flawless glass. Mix white vinegar with distilled water, spray on your frame’s glass, and wipe away with a piece of newspaper.

The team at Frame Warehouse is excited to help you get your home in order for spring. Have questions about how to care for your frames or want to replace frames that are too worn to save? Send us a message!

Classic Frame Color Combinations for Spring

Updating your home’s décor on a seasonal basis may seem like a big task—who has the time to overhaul their living space four times per year? While some people certainly do go to extremes when keeping up with their home’s seasonal décor, you can have a big impact on the look and feel of your home with some very small changes. For instance, you can switch out your frames. New frames can add a bit of seasonal color to your living space, and below are a few classic color combinations to explore.

White and Blush
This color combination is perfect if you’re going for a light, understated look. White frames create a fresh, clean aesthetic and will complement nearly any image that you put in them. The blush frames will provide a soft, feminine, spring feel.

White and Blue
This color combination is more striking in appearance than the white and blush option, but conjures the same feeling of a bright spring day. One of the great things about this combination is that it can range from subtle to a major décor statement, depending on which hue of blue you choose.

White and Yellow
Nothing says spring like bright yellow blooms, and you can bring the energy and joy of your favorite yellow flowers into your living space with this color combination. Like the white and blue combination, this option can make as understated or as powerful of a statement as you would like depending upon the vibrancy of the yellow that you choose.

What’s the Best Way to Clean the Glass in Your Frames?

Cleaning the glass in your frames is one of those things that you probably don’t think about until the glass is quite dusty or smudged—and once it gets to that point, it can be daunting to know where to start. Next time you’re ready to clean your frames, follow this step-by-step process for shining, gleaming glass that shows off your photos and artwork.

  1. Remove the glass from the frame. This step is important for two reasons. First, you’ll be able to clean the entire glass and avoid pushing dust and grime up against the edge of the frame. Second, you’ll be able to protect the frame from discoloration, warping, and other damage that the cleaner may cause.
  2. Mix your own cleaner. While store-bought glass cleaners work well, you can get a much clearer shine to your glass by creating your own cleaning solution. Mix equal parts distilled water (distilled to reduce the residue left behind) and white vinegar. If the smell is unpleasant, you can also add a few drops of your favorite essential oil.
  3. Spray the cleaner evenly and dry with a piece of newspaper. You read that right! A piece of newspaper is the best way to get a streak-free shine on your frame’s glass.
  4. Let the glass dry before putting it back in the frame. A small film of moisture will be left on the glass after you dry it. Let it sit for a few minutes to dry completely before you put it back in the frame.

Use Frames to Create Geometric Art for Your Home

Creating a focal point on the largest wall in your living room is a wonderful way to draw in the eye and create a warm space. While hanging a large piece of art may be ideal, it’s not always financially feasible. If you’re on a budget but want a unique, eye-catching feature for your living room, try this geometric art project using nothing but frames!

Step One: Gather Your Frames

The wonderful thing about using frames as art is that you can create virtually any style with them, as they come in so many different shapes, colors, textures, and sizes. Get a sense of how large you want your whole art piece to be and put some thought into the kind of style you’d like to create. Once you’ve decided on these two things, head over to Frame Warehouse. We’ll help you pick out the perfect collection of frames for your feature wall.

If you’re going to take the DIY route to picking out frames, keep these things in mind:

  • Frames similar in color and texture can create a sleeker, more polished look
  • Frames that complement one another in color and have different textures can create a sophisticated yet eclectic look

Step Two: Lay Out Your Design

To avoid putting too many holes in your wall, it’s a good idea to lay out your design on the floor or kitchen table before you start hanging your frames. Start with your larger frames first, then create clusters of your smaller frames around and within the larger ones. Remember to be creative—there’s no right or wrong way to do this! Try overlapping frames and grouping different colors and textures until you get a layout that you’re happy with.

Step Three: Hang Your Frames

When hanging your frames, start with the middle of your design and work your way out. This will ensure that your art is centered on your wall. Don’t forget to use a level!

DIY: Create a Unique “Wreath” with Frames

Putting up a new wreath is a fun and festive way to mark each season—but it can become expensive and difficult to maintain, especially if you’re using plants or foliage. Instead, why not try this DIY version? Cost-effective and fun to make, this will allow you to celebrate each season while decorating your home in a way that reflects your personal style.

DIY Frame Wreath Step 1: Gather Your Materials

  • One medium to large sized frame (depending upon the size of your door)
  • Paint (optional)
  • Ribbon, yarn, or twine, depending on your style preference
  • Seasonal items to hang from your wreath (ornaments, wooden letters, bells, etc.)
  • Stapler
  • Over-the-door wreath holder

DIY Frame Wreath Step 2: Assemble Your Wreath

First, decide whether or not to paint your frame. A great way to skip this step is to visit us at Frame Warehouse and choose a frame that’s already the color and style that you want. If you are painting, make sure you sand the frame first if necessary.

Next, cut strips of your ribbon, yarn, or twine to different lengths. You’ll want one strip per ornament that you’re going to hang. Once they are cut, go ahead and attach the ornaments to the bottoms of the strips.

Once your ornaments are attached, place your frame on a table so that the back is facing up. Use your stapler to attach the tops of the strips to the top of the frame. This way you’ll be able to see the strips coming down from behind the top of the frame when you have it hanging.

If you like the look of your wreath at this point, go ahead and hang it by a loop of ribbon, yarn, or twine on the over-the-door wreath holder. But don’t stop here if you want to add more decoration! Get creative and use the rest of your materials to further decorate your wreath.

3 Tips for Creating a Classic Gallery Wall

3_Tips_for_Creating_a_Classic_Art_Gallery_Style_Display_Wall_(Image).jpg

Nothing in the realm of home décor is quite as versatile as a gallery wall. From the most elegant to the most eclectic, examples of gallery walls that reflect a wide range of styles are available all over Pinterest. But what about a simple, classic gallery wall that lets your artwork do all the talking? If that’s the look you’re going for, follow these three tips and you’ll have a gorgeous gallery wall up in no time.

Tip 1: Go for a linear arrangement of your artwork and photos, rather than groupings

Traditional galleries and museums hang all of their art at the same level. When hanging your art and photos in this style, choose a point about five to six feet from the ground, depending upon the height of your ceilings and any other furnishings you may need to clear, and hang all of your pieces in one line. All of the tops of the frames should line up.

Tip 2: Think out your frame selections

The basic linear shape of the classic gallery wall creates a refined style that is fun to juxtapose against more eclectic frame selections—but don’t feel like this is the only way to go! Having matching frames across the entire wall will really let your artwork shine and is a great option if your pieces are bright and have various color palettes.

Tip 3: Choose which wall you use strategically

While gallery walls are often features of a home, this particular style lends itself well to less focal areas of a room. For example, it’s a great way to add some interest to a small wall that’s often overlooked.

Want to create a gallery wall but not sure where to start? Come visit us a Frame Warehouse! We can help you choose the perfect frames and think through the best way to arrange them.

How Can Frames Add Texture to Your Home?

Texture is an important facet of your home’s style. From a hand crocheted throw to a woven tapestry, you can bring texture into your living space in a long list of ways. One of the easiest ways to do this is through your frames.

Textured Frames Means Wood Frames, Right?

When someone mentions texture and frames in the same sentence, your mind probably naturally drifts in the direction of wood frames. While wood frames aren’t the only ones that can bring texture into a room (they all can!), let’s pause on this idea for a moment.

Wood frames are wonderful because they can be completely understated or they can make a very loud statement, depending on the wood grain and color you choose. One of the best options for bringing warmth and style into a room without overpowering it is by using barn wood frames.

Smooth Textured Frames for a Bit of Sophistication

This isn’t to say that rougher textures can’t be sophisticated, because they can, but a smooth texture is a wonderful way to bring a polished look to a room. Want to really turn the elegance up a notch? Choose a matte smooth finish.

Ornate Frames for Over the Top Style

If your style is a bit more traditional or elaborate, have some fun with ornate frames! These have molding on them, creating different patterns around the frame. These are particularly fun to use when framing oil paintings and other more traditional pieces of artwork.
